Clue Retrieval Activities For A Children's Murder Mystery Party
A hands-on approach can be used to inspire children to collect clues that are needed to solve a crime that is being highlighted during a mystery party game. Use kid-friendly activities to add an element of excitement to the festivities.
Balloons
Conceal clues inside of several inflated balloons that are mixed in with balloons that do not contain clues. Review the storyline that is included with the mystery game. Write down clues on narrow strips of paper. Roll up the clues and use tape to secure them. Purchase some glitter and small foil shapes that can be added to the balloons. Inflate the balloons by mouth or with the use of a helium tank.
Right before you secure each balloon, pour some glitter and foil shapes into the neck of each balloon. Choose random balloons to add clues to. When the murder mystery party game begins, allow each child to choose one of the balloons. Inform the kids to pop the balloons and search the contents for a clue.
A Pool
A kiddie pool can be used to hide a series of clues. Use foam or another waterproof material to write clues on. Purchase a permanent marker to add the clues onto various foam shapes. Fill the pool with water and add some colorful plastic balls to the pool. Mix the foam shapes in with the balls.
Let the children know that they will be given the opportunity to find clues that may help them solve the crime. Break the kids up into teams and use a timer to keep track of how long the children search for clues. Provide each team with a couple of minutes to try to find as many clues as they can.
A Treasure Hunt
A treasure hunt can coincide with the theme of the murder mystery and can be used to amplify the storyline and provide a fun way to locate clues. Use bright-colored signage or stickers to highlight the areas where clues are hidden. Place all of the clues within your yard or another confined area that the children will be frequenting during the murder mystery game.
Garments of clothing, hats, tools, or other items that are part of the storyline can serve as clues. Give the children buckets or another collection device to use while they are foraging through the area where the clues are hidden. The buckets can be used to transport the clues and to conceal the items from the other children who are competing in the murder mystery event.
