About a year ago, I started working really hard to get my family more active. We started spending a lot of time going through and enjoying community activities, and it was really fun to see how much better our lives were. I could tell that all of us were losing weight, having more fun, and really living it up. I felt great, and I could tell that I was becoming a better parent because of things like community sports and recreation programs. This blog is all about getting out there, having a great time, and really enjoying your life with the help of physical activity.

Just because the weather outside is dreary or cold, you don't have to give up the game of golf. Take time during winter months or inclement conditions to fine-tune and perfect your golf skills. Surprise your opponents in the spring with improved form, a better swing, and precise putting.  

Hone your golf skills, regardless of the weather outside:

Practice with a weighted club. Try practicing your swing with a weighted club; a weighted club is usually shorter than a typical golf club, and is intended to build strength and speed. Try one out in your garage or backyard.

Take the game inside. Find an indoor driving range nearby and take advantage of it during foul weather. Hit some balls and take some tips from the resident pro to get your game on-fleek by spring.

Do your homework. Make winter the time to do your homeowner and delve into some videos and online tutorials. Also, make it a point to watch some golf, like tournaments and championships, to see the form, swing, and game of golfing pros.

Invest in a putting mat. Putting mats are a great way to improve your short-game and these are found in a wide-range of styles and price-points to fit any space or budget. Invest in a putting mat and practice daily during the winter months to see a difference when you are on the greens.

Try a golf simulator. Everything has gone high-tech, including the game of golf. Try out a golf simulator, often found in high-end pro shops or retail venues, to see what you are doing wrong as well as how to improve when you hit the actual course.

Swing one-hundred times a day. Golf pro Hank Haney believes that the base for improvement on the course is to swing an iron 100 times. This does not have to involve a ball, and can be done in the comfort of your own living room or office. This tactic provides a great workout, while also enhancing your form.  

Use these tips to hone your golf skills over the winter and return to the course with an improved game in the spring.
